Song of the Storm Dragon Shapeshifter Dragons Book 3 edition by Marc Secchia Joemel Requeza Children eBooks

I have read all of Marc Secchia’s dragon books with enjoyment. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but this may be mine and this is why. In this book I truly began to understand the foundation of what he has been doing all this time. While each book stands alone as a fun and adventurous read, as a body he has built not only a fantasy world, but a true culture and rich complex history. Everything needed to texture and layer a civilization is here; heroic figures, myths and legends, scientific discoveries, learning and knowledge at all levels, injustice and unfairness, class, caste, and ethnicity tension, gender relationships, love and hate and everything in that spectrum, oral and musical history and more.

As I read this book, my reader’s backthoughts stretched back to the previous adventures constantly. All the pieces were in place. This was similar to reading a great novel from my own culture, because the draconus culture is so richly developed that everything is in place.

And the magic soars. Aranya carries generations on her frail shoulders and she does not disappoint us. Her Ardan is one of my favorite characters as he struggles to understand how to reach her heart both as a woman and as a dragoness.

I loved the ending. I personally did not see it as a cliff hanger, but just the next step in a great series of novels. Marc Secchia can write and that’s the truth. One of my favorite sections “ That star had not been present when they first beheld the Rift. It hung low against a velveteen tapestry of star-dusted darkness, brighter and more breathtaking than she had ever imagined, yet the melancholy seemed both travesty and injustice as Zip craned her neck to gaze upward, rising upon her tiptoes as though she could imbibe the wondrous magic of starlight.” Wow, now that’s some good stuff!

I recommend the book, I recommend the series, and I recommend Marc Secchia as a strong gifted writer.

Song of the Storm Dragon Shapeshifter Dragons Book 3 edition by Marc Secchia Joemel Requeza Children eBooks Reviews

I really liked Song of the Storm Dragon, just like Mark's previous books, the plot was engaging, and there was humor, and at times it was serious or sad.
My goodness, that man can write. His beautiful descriptions make you want to stay in this world.
Aranya rocks! Not unlike said Imarian princess there was a time or two I got a bit lost but like all of Seccia's dragon tales this book is as the title of my review says...fantastic. Travels and magic, trials and victories all within ...do read it.
I love this author and his dragon books, they're all so well-written and immersive. But I have to ask... WHERE IN THE NAME OF THE ONYX IS THE FOURTH BOOK?
I'd give it 5 stars but misspelling and use of similar sounding words to the one that should have been kept making my concentration and enjoyment of the book hiccup. Other than that, indepth wordsmithing on the society, geography, characters and a complicated and intriguing plot with twists on twists.
This one was a little dryer toward the end. Lots more explanations of what was happening in Herimor that could have been reduced. More could have been said about Aranya and her star powers and what they are. And I am still waiting for someone to release Pip and the dragons from the egg that everyone wants.

But I love this series and this book continued the story line.
A masterful continuation of the story. A roller-coaster ride of tension, suspense, and emotions. The same well-developed and complex characters that I've grown to love set out on a mission of profound proportions.

Now with Hualiama’s Dragon Friend trilogy, there are eight books detailing the fantastical Island World. Fantastical world building is an understatement. The rich history intricately woven into a weighty, world-sized tapestry defines a culture as complex and complete as any on Earth.
To understand this story, you must read the first two books of Aranya’s Shapeshifter Dragons series and the Pygmy Dragon’s two book Shapeshifter Dragon Legends series. You don’t need to read Hualiama’s Dragon Friend trilogy to understand her or Herimor but it does add richness to the characters Aranya meets this go around (but on the other hand, discovering that history, its mythos, and personalities of lore along with Aranya makes for a better story).

In the 548 pages, there was joy, devastation, mystery, boredom, mysticism, frustration, worry, doubt, angst, anger. The near poetic prose had me feeling them all. With constant poetic twisting of my emotions, do I admit to bouts of tearful reading? There were times I had to stop reading to clear tears of exalted joy … and of crushed heart. How does Marc Secchia do that?

However.

While the picture-painting was incredibly vivid and intriguing, the long descriptions of the under the Cloudlands world and inter-Rift are monotonous when they aren’t downright boring. Too much of a good thing is … painful. I found myself trying to skip past parts but important dialogue was scattered throughout the expositories. I dare say that I would have welcomed about 148 pages less description.

I do greatly appreciate the author’s writing style with his poetic prose, fancifully brilliant metaphor, vivid scene painting, and extravagant vocabulary word choice, but this installment was too much for me. Having to look up the definition of one or two words every other page or so is good exercise, but five, or six, or ten is burdensome and exhausting. I got lost too many times and had to re-read many passages to figure out what was going on and who said what; especially in the first third.

I assumed this was the last third of a trilogy. With 40% of the book left, it was clear that this is not the case. The fourth book is promised “in 2017.” It’s going to be a long year. And, while I've relished visiting the Island World and love Aranya, I’m hoping that the fourth book sets the World right and declares peace and love ever after.

If you liked the Dragon Series so far, you’re going to enjoy this installment. Strap in and get ready for an internal-organ wrenching ride!
